May Gardening Tips

 Lawn

• Water lawn as needed
• Fertilize with 24-5-10 25% (early May)
• Apply Broadleaf Weed Killer
• Apply pre-emergent with fertilizer for warm season weed control (late May)
• Apply grub control for preventative measures

Trees

• Plant Trees and Shrubs
• Prune back early spring blooming shrubs such as Lilacs and Forsythia (when finished blooming)
• Prune suckers around base of Trees and Shrubs
• Apply systemic drench to feed trees all season long and prevent disease and insect infestation
• Apply chelated iron to trees that are susceptible to iron chlorosis

 Vegetable

• Plant warm season crops such as Peppers, Squash, and Tomatoes etc. (Mid May)
• Plant kitchen herbs in container, place outside during the day, move indoors at night
• Apply fruit tree spray to Apples after petal fall

Flower Beds

• Apply pre-emergent for weed control
• Plant Summer & Fall blooming perennials
• Plant summer blooming annuals
• Mix mulch and soil amendments to flower beds
• Apply top dressing to flower beds
